Driscoll and Cullinane Secure Teen Center Funding

May 2, 2018

BOSTON, MAY. 2 - During the recent House budget debate on Beacon Hill, State Representatives Bill Driscoll Jr. and Dan Cullinane secured $25,000 for a Teen Center in the Town of Milton. The funding, earmarked for fiscal year 2019, will be used to help with the planning and design process of the center.

“The Milton Board of Selectmen took a pivotal step forward in February when they voted to create a Teen Task Force. These funds are in support of the task force and our town’s efforts to improve the quality of life in Milton,” said Representative Driscoll. “Myself and Representative Cullinane are grateful to our colleagues in the House for including the amendment in the budget," he added.

“This is an incredible opportunity to move this vision of a Milton Teen Center forward," said Representative Dan Cullinane. "Representative Driscoll deserves tremendous credit for his leadership and advocacy on this issue and for securing these funds in the House budget. I was proud to co-sponsor this amendment he filed and to advocate alongside him on behalf of the town and all those who are working to make the teen center a reality.”

The demand for a Teen Center in the Town of Milton has existed for many years. Representative Driscoll noted the potential advantages of the proposed facility, opining that, “a safe structured space where teenagers can socialize, and activities are organized for them, will be of enormous benefit to families. Randolph, the other town I represent as State Representative, opened a new intergenerational community center this past Fall. I have seen first hand the positive impact and how much of a game changer opening a facility with specific programming and unstructured drop in hours can be for our youth."
