Hurricane Michael Trip

November 1, 2018

MILTON, NOV. 1 - Representative Driscoll returned to Milton, MA on Wednesday October 31st after spending several days in Southern Georgia, assisting with Hurricane Michael response efforts. Driscoll spent three days volunteering in Decatur County, GA just north of the Florida Panhandle.

The wind damage from Hurricane Michael, which made landfall on October 10th, extends hundreds of miles inland and dropped thousands of trees on and around homes. “My friends and former colleagues at NECHAMA called as soon as they setup a base of operations. I was happy to lend a hand for a few days,” Driscoll stated.

Disaster response fieldwork is a familiar setting for the State Representative for Milton and Randolph, MA. Prior to his election, Representative Driscoll spent 11 years in the disaster response sector at several leading nonprofit organizations in the US.

“This trip allowed me to meet and work alongside some terrific AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Conservations Corps) members on assignment in Georgia. I haven’t done that much nonstop chainsawing in years and the the quick trip provided an opportunity to dig in physically and also to share my knowledge and tips for clearing trees and tarping roof tops with the AmeriCorps and NECHAMA teams. They will be on the ground for many weeks and there is no shortage of need after the Hurricane." Driscoll added, “I am glad they are there to provide important support and physical assistance, right now, people need it down there.”
