Driscoll Presides Over Session that Adopts Bridgewater Home Rule

During a recently held Senate session and as acting President, Senator William J. Driscoll, Jr. (D-Milton) had the opportunity to lead the adoption of a Town of Bridgewater home rule. This home rule updates the town charter by replacing gender-specific pronouns with gender-neutral language.
The bill—H.4781, An Act authorizing Bridgewater town charter amendment for gender neutral language—modernizes the town charter through the adoption and use of more inclusive language.
Another Bridgewater home rule recently passed the Senate during a separate session. H.5342 secures a liquor license to a business in the town.
Home rule petitions are formal requests approved and sent by local governments to the state legislature to pass a law that relates to a specific issue. Driscoll is grateful to Bridgewater electeds, as well as to his colleague in the House, Representative Dennis C. Gallagher (D-Bridgewater), for the collaboration on this effort – work that has brought these petitions nearly over finish line.
Having been engrossed by both the House and Senate, both bills are now before the Governor for her signature.
