Following a court order, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) was required to pay full November SNAP benefits to all those eligible. Massachusetts' Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) has been working to provide updates to SNAP recipients and further mitigate potential impacts from this evolving situation.
Following the court order:
SNAP households who missed payments last week, approximately 56% of SNAP households, received their full November SNAP and are able to use the SNAP balances on their EBT cards. Residents with balances on their cards should continue to utilize these to purchase food.
The remaining SNAP households (44% of SNAP households) should get their full November SNAP during the week of November 10-14 on their normal date this week, barring further action by the Trump Administration.
HIP continues to be available for households with balances on EBT cards (even $0.01). For more information about HIP and where to find a retailer, please visit: Massachusetts Healthy Incentives Program (HIP) Frequently Asked Questions | Mass.gov
As you may be aware, the Trump Administration has told states to stop issuing full benefits for November. We strongly disagree with their claim that we lacked authority to issue full benefits and are working closely with the Attorney General’s Office. We took steps to issue those benefits pursuant to the lower court order and USDA’s own November 7th guidance prior to any action by the Supreme Court.
New SNAP applications will be processed, but payments for newly approved cases will not be sent until there is legal clarification.
This continues to be a fluid situation and we will update you on any changes as we closely monitor court decisions and Trump Administration actions.
