On Thursday, January 29th, Senator Bill Driscoll Jr. (D-Milton) joined Governor Healey and stood in solidarity with other Massachusetts leaders for a press conference where she announced the filing of legislation. This bill takes specific action to increase the safety of the Commonwealth related to unconstitutional tactics employed by this Federal administration and ICE.
"What I've seen happening is wrong. I'm front, center and shoulder to shoulder with others, standing up for what I believe is right," said Driscoll
This comes at a moment where the federal administration is willfully disregarding court orders and constitutional rights. Specifically, CBS News reports that ICE has violated 96 court orders in 74 cases this month. As such, the Senator was proud to stand alongside the Governor and many Commonwealth leaders for these announcements, and is eager to vote in support of the legislation once it is presented to the Senate.

Specifically, the bill will keep ICE out of courthouses, schools, childcare programs, hospitals, and churches without a warrant; prevent National Guards from other states from deploying in Massachusetts without the Governor’s permission; and enable parents to more easily arrange guardianship for children in case they, as primary caretakers, are detained or deported.
Also announced during the press conference was the Governor’s Executive Order that prohibits Executive Department offices and agencies from issuing any new agreements under 287(g) of the federal Immigration and Nationality Act, unless there is a confirmed public safety risk.
It also prohibits civil arrests by federal immigration officers in nonpublic areas of state facilities; and bans federal immigration officers from using state facilities for staging areas, processing locations, or operation bases for civil immigration enforcement efforts.
