On March 11th, plumbers, contractors, and union leaders from across the Commonwealth gathered at the State House to celebrate Plumbing Industry Day.

Joined by the Greater Boston Plumbing Contractors Association (GBPCA), the International Association of Plumbing & Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), along with several regional plumbing and plumbing inspector associations, many attendees rallied in support of policies aimed at protecting the Commonwealth’s water supply and promoting sustainable water use.

Discussions emphasized the importance of ensuring safe drinking water, particularly in schools and childcare centers, to protect children from the risk of lead contamination. In addition, several policies focused on advancing water conservation by funding upgrades to water infrastructure that support housing development, as well as promoting the installation of greywater systems and irrigation applications to encourage the reuse of water. All in all, by reducing water waste, improving infrastructure, and adopting innovative solutions for environmental sustainability, these practices not only protect our communities but also underscore the need to strengthen public health initiatives and support long-term resilience across the Commonwealth.

It is crucial to support and celebrate this industry and workforce through their work to keep our communities safe, healthy, and thriving. Together, their efforts reflect a shared commitment to strengthening Massachusetts’ infrastructure, safeguarding public health, and promoting environmental sustainability for future generations.
